Job Purpose

The Policy and Advocacy Manager supports the pathology community and the ESP through regulatory and policy advocacy at the national, EU and international levels, and is responsible for carrying out the advocacy-related agenda of the ESP. The Policy and Advocacy Manager is also responsible for the continued development of ESP policies, guidelines, position, and expert opinion papers in close collaboration with ESP team and the relevant committees and taskforces.
 

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all projects and processes related to the Policy and Advocacy activities of the ESP. 
  • Develop policy agenda and activities, including monitoring EU regulations, legislative acts, EU grant announcements as to identify opportunities for ESP and its advocacy initiatives. 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with government officials, EU and national agencies, and other entities relevant to the healthcare community. 
  • Secure a positive image of ESP and engage in policy debates, conferences, and hearings on behalf of ESP. 
  • Work collaboratively with ESP affiliated national societies and associated societies, other relevant coalitions, federations, clinical associations, international and regulatory bodies, and private sector partners. 
  • Devise and manage a strategy to build out the ESP’s policy and advocacy network to engage ESP representatives and other stakeholders in communicating with public, healthcare representatives, public officials, and the media about the ESP strategic initiatives. 
  • Support development of ESP guidelines, position, and expert opinion papers in close collaboration with the relevant Committees. 
  • Prepare for and coordinate policy and advocacy meetings and events, including identification of speakers, preparation of target materials, minuting meetings, and assisting in setting up appointments with health and regulatory authorities. 
  • Work with the Executive Committee and Advisory Board and other ESP Committees and staff of ESP, to develop ways to measure and communicate the impact of advocacy activities to the ESP members and all partners. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent apprenticeship in advocacy and public policy. 
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in an advocacy or public policy position, especially in medical associations or non-profit organisations. 
  • Understanding of functioning of EU institutions and EU policy making. 
  • Advanced knowledge of communications and social media. Strong, demonstrated skills in persuasive verbal and written communications. Ability to generate correspondence, reports, and meeting minutes. 
  • Ability to interact competently with stakeholders, both within the ESP and outside the organisation. 
  • Strong work ethic, self-motivated with a high level of credibility, integrity, and professionalism. 
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail. 
  • Ability to work effectively on multiple projects with tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency, including strong command of Microsoft Office computer software programs, especially Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, and virtual meeting platforms. 
  • Ability to travel and to perform limited evening and weekend work.
