Anatomical Pathologists positions available at the Instituto Português de Oncologia de Coimbra Francisco Gentil, E.P.E. (Coimbra, Portugal)
The Instituto Português de Oncologia de Coimbra (IPO) is a Comprehensive Cancer Centre, a modern hospital unit that provides high standard of cancer care, early detection and prevention, training and research. The IPO of Coimbra, was founded in 46 years ago, has 200 beds, is placed in the highest level of the national net for cancer care and is the reference centre for a health region that covers around 2,5 million inhabitants. To fulfil its mission, the IPO of Coimbra has 910 members’ staff, including 150 doctors, 237 nurses, and other highly qualified health professionals, such as PhDs, basic and clinical research personal and cancer registry experts.
The Anatomical Pathology Service has all the equipment needed to carry out a high quality practice in anatomical pathology.
The main pathologies are:
- Breast Pathology (there’s a screening programme for breast cancer in the centre region of Portugal);
- Gynaecology Pathology (there’s a screening programme for cervical cancer in the centre region of Portugal and the cytological slides are diagnosed in IPO Coimbra Anatomical Pathology Service)
- Head and Neck pathology, mainly salivary glands and thyroid
The service has archives since 1962 and a single clinical process.
The service makes part of some working groups, at both national and international level.
Profile required:
- A Medical Doctor’s Degree
- A qualification as a specialist in Anatomical Pathology
- Experience in Oncological Cytology and Histopathology
- Portuguese Language Skills would be an advantage
Conditions offered:
- A contract, renewable by mutual agreement
- A salary in accordance with the required function.

Pathology is a key medical discipline bridging clinical medicine and the biomedical sciences. The discipline occupies a crucial position in patient care, both in terms of diagnostics and therapy, using morphological and molecular approaches. The Pathology Department at Maastricht University Hospital comprises 13 staff members and 12 trainee pathologists. The postgraduate training programme is offered in close collaboration with the pathology departments at Heerlen, Tilburg and Venlo.

The position:

Requirements:

Working hours:
On average, 40-48 hours a week for a 100% appointment, in accordance with prevailing working hour regulations for this position.
Terms of employment:
The position is subject to the conditions of the Dutch collective labour agreement for university medical centres (CAO Universitair Medische Centra). A suitable remuneration offer will be made during the selection procedure, depending on training and experience.

LOCUM CONSULTANT HISTOPATHOLOGIST
12 MONTH CONTRACT
FULL TIME/PART TIME PRIVATE PRACTICE
Laboratory of Pathology, Bonsecours Hospital, Cork, Ireland is seeking for a consultant specialist in Histopathology, full time or part-time. The post includes a clinical activity with participation at the MDT meeting. The laboratory includes 3 pathologists. The activity, targeted at the cancer diagnosis, is general-purpose interesting almost all the organs with the exception of the neuropathology and of the pediatric pathology, no autopsy. The proposed post involves more specifically the gastro-intestinal, tumoral cutaneous, urologic and breast pathologies; an experience in these domains would be desirable.

(a) Full registration in the General Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council in Ireland or entitlement to be so registered,

(c) Inclusion on or eligibility to be included on the division of histopathology of
the Register of Medical Specialists maintained by the Medical Council in Ireland.
